Herne Hill Free Film Festival 2018

Herne Hill Free Film Festival 2018

Published: 04/12/2018

This year the Herne Hill Free Film Festival celebrated its sixth birthday with a fun packed month of films and workshops across a range of venues in and around Herne Hill. This is the fourth year Pedder has been working with the festival's volunteers, and in 2018 their generous support has not only helped us to entertain more than 2,500 people at 30 events but it has also allowed us to build our partnership with the Norwood and Brixton Foodbank and donate more than £3,000 to this wonderful local organisation.

Over the course of May two of the year's biggest films - Get Out and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - came to Brockwell Lido and Judith Kerr Primary School, and events that featured local filmmaking talent, classics cinema and international films were also held at Station Square, the Herne Hill Velodrome, two local schools, a church, a brewery, a yoga studio and a greenhouse. Building on the continued success of the festival's 48 hour film challenge, for the first time the team also held a number of workshops, for first-time filmmakers, to develop the area's youngest acting talent and to give people an introduction into documentary production.

The festival is taking a well earned break this Christmas, although it will be helping out at Norwood and Brixton Foodbank on 22nd December to show a couple of Christmas classics while people wait for their hampers to be prepared. Like Arnie though, we'll be back in full swing in May 2019!
